WOMEN’S TEAM PAGE
It was an interesting and bittersweet year for our team. We finished on a huge historic high note with sophomore Nicole Gibbs and junior Mallory Burdette contesting the NCAA singles championship and then teaming to win the doubles title - the first time the same players from the same team both reached the singles final and then teamed to win the doubles Championship ! Congrats to Nicole and Mallory for their outstanding play in the NCAA tournament and throughout the year!
Our team had a remarkable one-loss season, which included being the co-conference champs in the inaugural Pac-12. Our quarterfinal finish and close loss showed just how tough our conference was with 4 teams finishing in the top 8 in the final rankings. Great effort by Nicole, Vee, Mal, Stacey, Ellen, Kristie, Amelia and Natalie!!!
We will miss our lone senior Veronica Li next year as she graduates with a degree in Political Science and returns in the Fall to complete a master’s in Sociology. Our incoming freshmen are:
Krista Hardebeck of Orange CA - currently competing in Europe at the Junior Championships at the French Open and Wimbledon.
Lindsay Kostas of San Diego, a top southern Cal junior player.
Awards won this season:
Nicole Gibbs: NCAA Singles and Doubles Champion, Pac 12 Player of Year, ITA Singles Player of Year, Stanford “Conference Player of the Year”, Honda Award winner for tennis
Mallory Burdette: 2 time NCAA Doubles Champion, Pac 12 First Team Selection singles, Stanford Outstanding Junior Female Athlete
Stacey Tan: Pac 12 Second Team selection
Please watch our players compete at the Bank of the West WTA event at Stanford July 7-15, 2012.
Thanks for all of the support that we received this year, and we look forward to an outstanding campaign next season. See you next fall.

MEN’S TEAM PAGE
We were really proud of the team this year. They kept battling every match. We had a few bumps in the road, but the guys kept working hard, both on and off the court, and we became a very good team at the end of the season. We fought through some injuries, which allowed other players to step up and contribute.
We hosted the 1st & 2nd round of the NCAA’s again. We were the #11 seed, and defeated Sacramento State in the first round, and then defeated Santa Clara in the second round 4-1. The final 16 met in Athens, GA this year. We played #6 Kentucky in the round of 16, and we scored 4-1 upset victory. We then played #3 Virginia, as we had last year in the quarterfinals, and once again they were just a little better than we were.
Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher competed in the NCAA Individual Championships. Ryan lost in the first round, Bradley got to the semifinals of singles. In doubles Ryan & Brad lost to Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.
We received many post-season awards. Klahn & Thacher were named ITA All-Americans for the third straight year. Klahn was selected 1st team All Pac-12, Thacher was named to the 2nd team. Thacher was also awarded the Arthur Ashe award for Leadership & Sportsmanship by the ITA - an honor well deserved. We are very proud of both these young men. They have always represented Stanford with class and dignity!
We certainly are looking forward to next year. We are losing two incredible players and people in Ryan & Brad. They will be difficult to replace. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. We have four new players coming to “The Farm”. Nolan Paige (Fairfield CT), Maciek Romanowicz (Warsaw, Poland), Trey Strobel (Bradenton, FL), and Anthony Tsodikov (San Francisco, CA). We are looking forward to their contributions to the team and our University the next four years.
We hope you have a wonderful summer. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium for the 2012-13 season.
