WOMEN’S TEAM PAGE

Now that the fall is over, we can reflect on a job well done by our 2012 squad!  Sophomore Nicole Gibbs partnered for the first time with Junior Mallory Burdette and won the All-American Championships back in October. As a follow-up, they both reached the final of the USTA/ITA Regionals at Stanford in singles.

Newcomer Ellen Tsay partnered for the first time with Junior Stacey Tan to take the doubles title and produce a Stanford sweep for the first time in many years!

We expect Sophomores Kristie Ahn and Amelia Herring back from injuries in January as we point towards an early season rematch with the NCAA Champion Florida Gators here at Stanford Sunday February 12th!

As always winter quarter is a busy time for our team so we hope to see you at the upcoming home matches:

February 1 vs. UC Davis @ 3pm

MEN'S TEAM PAGE

Happy New Year! Brandon, JJ, and I were very pleased with our fall season. The team worked extremely hard in practice and in strength and conditioning. Our strength coach (Lesley Moser) did an outstanding job with the team this fall. Our trainer (Myra Tara) did a great job keeping the team healthy.

We had some excellent results in the early season fall tournaments. In the “Battle in the Bay” tournament in San Francisco, Sophomore Daniel Ho reached the semifinals in singles, and junior Walker Kehrer & freshman Robert Stineman reached the doubles final. In the ITA Regional tournament in Seattle, senior Ryan Thacher won the singles, defeating teammate junior Matt Kandath in the semifinals. Robert Stineman won the consolation singles. Kehrer & Stineman lost in the doubles final. These tournaments gave the players good experience heading into the upcoming dual match season.
The team spent Thanksgiving week in Hawaii for the 37th annual trip with many of our tennis boosters. This year we were on the Big Island at the Fairmont Orchid Hotel on the Kohala Coast once again. We defeated Hawaii 7-0 on November 21.

We are looking forward to the beginning of the dual match season. We’ll open on the road in Tulsa, where we play two matches - Tulsa on Jan. 20, and North Carolina on Jan. 21. We have twelve home matches this year, starting with the Team Indoor qualifying tournament, January 27 & 28. Our first match is against St. Mary’s Friday at 2pm, following the 10am opener with Boise State vs. Santa Clara. The losers play Saturday at 10am, and the winners play at 2pm. The winning team qualifies for the National Team Indoor Championships at the University of Virginia, Feb. 17-20.

After that, we host five matches in a row starting with USC & UCLA, Feb. 3 & 4, always great matches! California follows on Feb. 25, and then end the quarter with a match against Yale, Mar. 10. We always look forward to our annual trip to La Jolla for the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships Mar. 2-4. We travel to Pepperdine during our spring break, then on to Arizona & Utah, which begins our Pac-12 season. Before the dual matches begin we have a tournament at the Sherwood Country Club, Westlake Village, CA January 13-16.

This should be another exciting year for Stanford Men’s Tennis, culminating with the 2012 NCAA Championships at Georgia in May. The inaugural Pac-12 Team Championship will be held at Ojai in April.

We look forward to seeing you at our matches at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Thank you for all your support over the years.
